Matilda The Musical

On the 18th of January we went to Theatre Royal Plymouth to watch Matilda The Musical. We're big musical theatre fans, Millie especially, but rarely get a chance to go to watch a show together. When we found out Matilda was touring we knew we had to see it. We've both loved Tim Minchin's music forever and have listened to the soundtrack from the West End cast a lot.
First thing we have to mention is the set design. It is incredible. It's surrounded by seemingly random letters that actually spell out words related to the musical, at least it's something to do in the interval.
We knew the music was good but it was so much better performed in front of us. All the kids in the ensemble were amazing, we didn't realise how much the show is comprised of kids! The lyrics are fast paced, so it's easy to miss bits but luckily it is all on Spotify to re-listen over and over again.
The only downside we have, and it's being extremely picky, is the story line towards the end get a bit rushed. There were a lot of children at the showing we went to and if it was any longer many of them may have got a bit restless. However, knowing the story already, it took them a long time to get to the back story of Miss Honey and the Trunchball and it was very much crammed in towards the end. But like we said, extremely picky.
Overall we give it 10/10 would see again!
